Proper Badge Etiquette

If you have been given an ID badge by your employer, school or other organization, there are certain protocols that go along with it. It should always be kept in good condition, and in some place where others cannot reach it. The following tips can ensure that your ID badge doesn’t fall into the wrong hands:

Be sure to remove your badge and place it in a secure location when you're not serving in your official capacity.

If you have to leave your badge in a vehicle, make sure it is locked securely.

Even a locked vehicle may not deter a thief from breaking in to steal the badge. A badge left in a vehicle should be hidden and not left in plain sight.

Your badge should never be used for non-work related purposes.

When out in public, your badge should not be visible.

Treat your badge with the same care you would your wallet and/or purse; in fact, it is wise to keep them together so as not to forget your badge when going to work.

As with your wallet or purse, your badge should be placed in the same location each time you remove it so that you can find it easily when it is again needed.
